How to Find a Cheap VPS Hosting Company
Looking for cheap VPS hosting providers?
Who wouldn't want to avail of cheap VPS hosting services? At a time when many businesses are struggling to stay afloat due to rising costs of operations, cheaper hosting solutions have become quite in demand. There are many cheap hosting providers on the market; however, entrepreneurs are looking for hosting packages which are well-worth the pay. You could say that businessmen today have become "smarter" when it comes to choosing VPS hosting providers.
For a business to succeed it is important to have a reliable VPS hosting provider but oftentimes, anything that spells high-quality also means high-prices. If you want nothing but the best VPS hosting providers, you need to be ready for the cost.
Is cheap VPS hosting worth it?
It is important for a business to be very careful with its finances and investments in order to succeed in its market; however, businesses do commit mistakes and make wrong decisions sometimes. One of the most common mistakes which entrepreneurs make is signing up for unusually cheap VPS hosting services. A cheap hosting provider could either be a good thing or a bad thing; some cheap hosting providers do not live up to their promise of 100% uptime or the service itself might be problematic. Cheap VPS hosting may be worth it if the services are right, as well.
The difference between managed and unmanaged VPS hosting
Two of the most common hosting solutions which entrepreneurs avail of are managed and unmanaged VPS hosting. Both packages are perfect for e-commerce websites and for building one's online reputation. These hosting plans are entirely different from each other so it is important to pick the right package for your business. If you are someone looking for more control over your website and its software packages, you might consider availing of unmanaged VPS hosting; however, if you would like to receive support from your web host over some software packages, managed VPS hosting might be the best option for you.
Take note that both hosting options have different prices and oftentimes, managed VPS hosting is more expensive compared to its unmanaged counterpart. With this hosting plan, you have full power over the installations and updates made on your server; however, it would also help you a lot if you had ample programming knowledge or if you have a programmer close by. For cheap VPS hosting which you can alter and manage freely, it would be wise to choose unmanaged VPS hosting.

QUESTION:
VPS tutorials? Looking for a quick intro guide.?
I've just rented a VPS server and am finding it difficult to get started. It's unmanaged but support is great only i don't want to be bugging them every few minutes. There tutorials are supposedly aimed at beginners as well as pro's but i find them a little bit too vague.
I was wondering if anyone knows of a quick start tutorial, one which runs through the terminology quickly and basically gives me an outline of the workings without being mind numbingly complex?-
ANSWER:
I have the perfect site for you -- I'm glad I found this only one day after you posted it. The following webpage has a whole list of video tutorials all dedicated to helping you set up your VPS. I hope this helps. http://www.visi.com/SubNavContent.aspx?id=3345

QUESTION:
Just got a Linux cPanel Virtual Private Server hosting and?
I cannot for the life of me find the file manager or the public folder directory so I can upload html files, images or scripts. All I managed to do so far was change the nameservers, add a hostname, which is some word plus my domain name, again, this is for a Linux cPanel VPS acct., NOT shared.
Since it is an unmanaged VPS acct no support is given by Dotster
anyone know of a in-depth and easy tutorial, besides this host. I need this really quick.

QUESTION:
What's the best web host/solution?
Yes I asked this earlier but all I got was which host to use (which is great) - but I need to know more than that so I'm just gonna repost......please take time to read the whole problem and if I am not clear please feel free to ask me more........I desperately need a good reliable honest web host. My sister and I have tried many shared hosts THIS IS NOT WORKING- hosts like powweb simply do not fill our needs. We have a java/php based chat that runs nearly 24/7 that relies on a mysql database and the only other major pull, our php based forum also runs nearly 24/7 that also relies on another mysql database. On shared hosts, we are constantly down due to database problems--- these databases are hit so much that our site was taking up others on the shared network so of course we were constantly down. We figure we need a virtual private server or a dedicated one. We only want to run our sites-- not worry whether our server is for example, protected with virus software-- we need some management in other words. Yes we know this is not coming for an 8 dollar per month powweb price -- we are willing to pay--- we are just simply tired of picking the wrong host only to be embarrassed by all the down times.... please help and thank YOU!!!!!!!! very much!!
=====>>>>>
Okay I was not very clear...there are more answers needed. Do I use a VPS or dedicated one? Managed or unmanaged? I do not understand this stuff other than I know I have to have enough of the server's resources to allow for 2 mysql databases to be hit constantly. I do not want to have to worry pretty much about anything (ie security (antivirus) ) --- I just want to be able to load and maintain my site and have loads of fun with it--- not the workings in the background -- you know, the stuff you don't see when on an overcrowded shared server--
ANSWER:
You do need either a vps or dedicated server. The problem is, if you want to keep the site up, you must worry about antivirus, firewalls, and admin of the server. And I can tell you this: when you first start off you're down more than you're up lol, if you don't know what you're doing.Just because it says managed, does not mean they - the hosting company manages it. They may monitor for uptime, replace hardware, but anything software related (antivirus, mail, configuring the server to run websites, etc) is all you. It's a good possibility that they won't answer how do I questions (like how do I configure my firewall?)
You've definitely outgrown powweb. From what I can tell they have exactly one plan, which might be fine for a beginner.
Have you talked to companies like Verio or Hostgator that might be able to handle your resources better? You definitely will have to get the biggest plan available. If that doesn't work or doesn't interest you, you'll need to go to a dedicated server and hire a system admin.
You might also want to look into cloud computing: as I understand it you pay for the resources you use. Rackspace is a great company as well.
