Why is Vps Better Than Shared Hosting?
If you're planning to start an on-line enterprise, or if you've already got one, you'll know that there are many different web hosting plans out there - each with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. The least expensive is very popular shared hosting with hundreds of web sites all sharing a single, very large hard drive. However this type of Hosting is not always well suited for all sites, especially for high traffic sites, because it is not always possible to isolate each website from other sites that share the server. The really big sites employ dedicated servers. One company. One server.
In between these two options is virtual private server, or VPS. VPS is less expensive (much less) than a dedicated or private server, and offers more freedom and many more options to a growing on-line business than shared hosting. With a Virtual Private Server, each web hosting account receives their own operating system. Users can configure these components without affecting other users on the same physical machine because they are working within their own virtual server. Moreover a VPS hosting environment can be smoothly scaled to even more powerful physical hosts as demand increases. In the long run, hosting on a VPS can significantly reduce the total cost of ownership.
VPS isn't suitable for every site owner. Some people wish to host a low-to-moderate traffic website and are happy with the level of control offered by a web hosting control panel like cPanel or Plesk. These individuals will prefer Shared Hosting for its perceived simplicity and ease of use: they generally do not have linux system administration experience and they are not interested in picking up any. Other have outgrown their shared hosting account or aren't happy with site performance (30-second download times) then it's definitely time to move up to a VPS account. A good web hosting company will help you migrate from your shared account to a VPS account without any breakdowns or hassles.
Do I Need VPS? If you plan to expand, offering more products and services, then consider a VPS plan even as a start-up. The difference in price between a good shared hosting plan and a good VPS plan is negligible in the whole bang-buck equation.
These are the main advantages:
PERFORMANCE
Shared server accounts are always dependent on the performance and good behavior of neighboring accounts. If one account violates their terms of service and sends out a mass-mailing of spam, this will load the server and negatively impact the performance of all accounts on that server.
VPS have guaranteed resources. One customer can not run away with a large share of the resources. You service will run reliably and predictably. If you have a bad VPS neighbor, they will tend to impact only their own account, as each account appears like a separate server to the Internet. They will not be able to grab your memory when you need it, get your server blacklisted, etc.
HIGH CUSTOMIZABILITY
Virtual Private Servers are very feature rich. They are functionally equivalent to a dedicated server. Some applications require that certain ports and/or protocols be opened or closed in the firewall. With Shared hosting, custom firewall configurations are not advisable for security reasons. Under the VPS, custom firewall configurations are feasible because of the partitioning between customers.
With a VPS, you can close ports using the IPTables feature.
You have your own IP Address.
You have Root Access.
Freedom to reboot your VPS at any time.
You can customize services such as web, mail, database, panels, domains
and much more...
The only limitation is you are not able to install your own kernel. This is due to the nature of how a VPS work.
SECURITY
Shared hosting is inherently difficult to secure completely. If an account on a shared server is broken into, the criminal may cause damage to the entire server, causing extended outages. If a spammer causes the server to get blacklisted with Spam organizations, this may impact other accounts that produce legitimate mailings until the server is whitelisted again.
VPS accounts are insulated from each other, minimizing the risk of unauthorized access from hackers as well as other customers. The isolation of your account also minimizes the risk of being impacted by a DoS attack that was intended for someone else.
SCALABILITY
Virtual private servers are inherently scalable - whether you need a minimal allocation to run a simple e-mail server or virtual private network end-point or a webserver with enough resources to support extensive database applications and heavy traffic, there is always a VPS hosting plan to meet your needs. Moreover you can anytime easily downgrade or upgrade your service with very little or no downtime!
UNLIMITED WEBSITES
Another advantage to VPS is the ability to manage numerous web sites. You won't run into problems with hardware sharing even if you run a dozen different sites. Your access to server assets is assured through the use of server-side software such as Apache Virtual Hosts and similar VPS packages. VPS hosting plans are a bit pricier than shared hosting. But with more and more sites coming on-line (approximately 6,000 a day!) VPS offers better value for your server dollars when you can host as many sites as you want. When considering VPS plans, amortize the monthly costs over the number of sites you anticipate creating. You'll quickly see that VPS monthly costs are consistently lower than shared hosting on a per site basis.
There may be a little downside to VPS for some people. VPS = more responsibility. That means you are responsible for many of the software installations, site maintenance, site security and many of the other responsibilities that come with on-line business ownership. If you don't know much about server side administration, VPS may be a bit more than you want to take on yourself. This is something to farm out to an expert if you're not familiar with maintaining a VPS, but you still need the power and control of VPS.
The solution - get a managed vps, the hosting provider will take care of those things for you and you can pay full attention to your websites content.

Who do you recommend for VPS hosting?
I have a shared web hosting account right now. My host is complaining I am using too much CPU. They want me to upgrade to their VPS but it costs several hundred per month. I would like a reliable and affordable virtual private server solution, preferably some outfit with USA based support.
I had the same problem as you. My webhost at the time wanted to squeeze me off of their server and upsell their VPS package. You can actually find reliable and affordable virtual private server hosting for cheap. When this happened to me a few years back, I used http://www.ApacheVPS.com and nver looked back. 24 x 7 USA support, USA based, only $12 per month. Good luck!
where can I get a good hosting in south korea, shared VPS or Dedicated?
I am a web designer and I need a good hosting with English control panel in South Korea. I need this for my client . VPS is fine too. I searched and contacted some Korean companies but the answer was very slow and it seems they do not have English support. any body can help me find a good one thanks this is urgent
You see Korea always has issues with proper English support or marketing to foreigners just have a look at big companies like Samsung and see their website in English and the level of English support they give to foreign market it is terrible, however there is one company I found in google Internet Brothers south Korea (internetbrothers.co.kr) the English page is rich and it seems they are a good candidate, It seems they operate under two domains jafarnet and internetbrothers I also found a lot of reference to this company and their English forum has been set up for a long time. search in whois and see how long they have had online presence too. Good luck

Self-Hosting vs. VPS: which is right for me?
I have two hosting needs: PHP and Rails. I’ve had (a bad) experience hosting a PHP site on a shared server. I’ve also briefly run a simple PHP server for a hobby site with low-availability standards.
Now that I’m considering running a serious, large site (Ruby on Rails), in addition to a few small existing PHP sites, should I host myself, or choose a Virtual Private Server?
* I have a 3.0GHz P4 / 1GB ram machine I could dedicate to hosting.
* I am familiar with general computer security principles, programming, and Linux
* I have a Comcast cable connection (no static IP)
* I can’t imagine spending much more than $50 / mo. to start.
I’ll add any details you consider relevant.
I recommend http://www.slicehost.com
If you had a submissions manager, what hosting method would you choose, VPS or shared?
And how much should it cost? Thanks!
How big of a difference does a vps server make than a regular shared ip type of hosting?
VPS hosting will allow to to use more server resources because you will get your own section of the server and not share it with anyone else. You can also set up your own mail server and other software as you wish.
Here’s a list of good value vps hosting providers:

Whether you notice much difference in performance will depend on your type of webiste.
Shared vs. VPS hosting?
Hello,
I was looking for opinions and experiences of which is better for…
for Performance. Not as interested in the accessibility to the server as I am performance, except perhaps implementing GZIP or Mod_Deflate which I don’t think is available on shared hosting.(which, seems like a big help to implement).
Reason: Adding javascript calculators which will slow down pages by 3-fold to a site that is already slower than approx 50-60% of sites even with basic static html pages with a couple compressed images(according to Google)
Warning: I’m Very Amateur (Thank You)
Hi Kendrick,
All things being equal, VPS hosting will always be better performance wise than shared hosting. The reason for this is that you are allocated your own set of server resources.
A couple things to consider:
VPS is more costly than shared hosting. I have shared hosting with Hostgator at $10/mo. I also have a VPS account at Servint which is $50/mo.
VPS hosting allows you to install more scripts and applications. A shared hosting account may not allow certain applications due to excessive resource usage which would affect other users on the server.
Since a VPS is basically your own separate server, there is some added responsibility regarding security. This is just a learning experience. In my case, the administration software helps with this, and the Servint forums were a great help as well.
I can tell you that Servint support is very good, and has helped me on several issues within minutes. Hostgator help is good as well, although their response time is much greater. They do serve thousands of sites.
So there it is. I hope this was a balanced explanation, although you can tell I’m a fan of Servint.
Best of luck in all your future projects.

Web hosting company question?
My current host, and many others which I have seen have policies regarding offensive content (swear words, etc) – What are some hosting providers (dedicated/dedicated+vps/dedicated+vps+shared) that do not have something in the terms of use about content like that?
Godaddy for example “pornographic, obscene or excessively profane content;” – I have forums which only I’m a mod/admin of currently, and I don’t check everyone to make sure they don’t use like softcore porn as a signature etc (which isn’t rare for a rap music forum, and people really don’t read the rules when they first register), things that I don’t personally add might be deemed offensive because of reasons like that.

VPS hosting’s speed vs Shared Hosting speed?
i know VPS hosting has many advantages vs shared hosting. how does that affect the speed of my site. will my web pages load faster if i get a vps hosting ?
Should I move from shared hosting to VPS?
I have a wordpress site which gets 2500-3500 unique vistors/day (around 8000 pageviews). I also have a forum setup. I expect this traffict to improve even more in the near future. I am currently using a shared hosting plan and my host had already suspended my site twice for putting heavy load on their resources. They are also demanding me to move to VPS.
I am using WP-Super cache plugin but still no use…..
My question is should I move to VPS or try another highend shared host like BLUEHOST. Is VPS worth for me?
Each page on my site is around 150-200 kb and as we all know wordpress uses php. php puts heavy load on CPU.
What should I do move to VPS or another shared hosting….
Ah, lovely Bluehost! I guess you fell foul of their ‘three strikes’ rule. I have a Drupal site that was booted off BH for ‘performance issues’. VPS is definitely the way to go, if you can afford it. If you are happy setting up your own server, you can save on costs by going for an unmanaged VPS solution. Going the VPS route may be more costly, but you’ll be freeing yourself of all the problems associated with shared hosts who oversell their servers.
Where I can find cheap VPN installation service on my server?
I have a Linux VPS and want to install VPN on it to share it’s internet connection but I can’t do it myself. Where I can find a good and cheap service to install and configure a VPN server for me?
First of all make sure that your hosting company allow it.
you can check this site for freelancers http://www.getafreelancer.com/
you can try installing openVPN (http://openvpn.net/), here are some steps

Shared vs. dedicated vs. VPS / Virtual Private hosting?
I’m currently on shared and would like to get more control over my host so that I can install various software and increase the functionality of my site. Faster db queries and whatnot with dedicated resources would be a nice plus!
My problem is I don’t have the traffic or resources to justify a dedicated box. I’m wondering if a VPS or virtualized host would be a good interim solution. This should definitely allow me to install my software, but I’m wondering if the performance would be any better with a relatively small virtual slice (256MB dedicated ram and a small chunk of the CPU reserved).
VPSs main selling point is indeed control without dedicated’s price, and you’re almost certain to get more cpu/memory per user on the host server than with shared hosting.
Even a 256mb will perform at least as good as shared hosting, and sounds like a good interim solution to me
If you’re buying a VPS, bear in mind they require some technical knowledge, although some come preinstalled with a control panel such as cpanel, directadmin or plesk.
Another thing to note is how the VPSs are provisioned. Virtuozzo VPSs allow the companies to oversell and this can in some cases result in extremely slow VPSs. Look out for a Xen-powered VPS as this cannot be oversold so you can be sure your part of the host OS resources really has been allocated to you.

How to manage/start with a VPS ?
I am totally a noob to VPS. I have used only shared hosting with C-panel. I want to buy a VPS. Can anyone guide from buying phaze to hosting phaze of my site in the VPS ? A tutorial link will be a great help or if you can describe the process in details it will be a great help. Thanks for your time.
Hello, you will need to provide more information so I can assist you getting your VPS online. Will the service be managed, semi-managed or unmanaged by your provider? In other words, managed means the provider will take care of everything for you but the price will be extremely expensive; for example, you tell them what to install, configure, etc. Some hosts will be providing semi-managed which means they will mostly assist you if there is a bug or a trouble regarding the hardware/software based. Last but not least, unmanaged VPS providers; these usually provide affordable VPS but you will be required to set up the additional softwares you WANT other than the OS, web server, control panel, and VPS panel. Upon ordering your VPS, you will be given choices of an OS, I recommend CentOS (32/64 bit, depending on your specifications). If you want a control panel, usually they will cost an additional price. cPanel is the choice for novice webmasters, however make sure your VPS has enough RAM memory to run it and some spare ones for your website.
The other issues I would worry about is the system performance and security. Have a sysadmin configure the software for you if you don’t know how. If not, search on Google for tutorials. Install CSF, it is very useful for your system firewall.
Here are some budget VPS providers I recommend if you’re looking to save some bucks (if not, please use a managed service!!):

Looking for a VPS…?
I’ve been using Godaddy’s shared hosting for a while, but as I’ve developed more sites that require more CPU usage, I’m thinking of getting a VPS to host my sites on, as shared hosting can’t handle my CPU intensive programs.
So, I’ve been looking around for a good VPS provider. Because I’ve been working with Godaddy, and there hasn’t been any problems with it (except some annoying customer support issues), it’s definitely on my list.
Another provider I’ve heard about is HostGator. One of my friends is using their shared hosting plan, and they have generally good reviews.
I’m asking here and not looking online, as it’s quite hard to get what seems like an unbiased opinion on hosting.
So, what’s your opinion on VPS providers? Thanks!
Slicehost and Linode are the most popular among developers.
Both have great features, are very fast and reliable and start from $20/month.

Looking for the Right Shared Web Host?
Recently, I have been using Godaddy. I mainly like them, except for their one undocumented limitation on CPU usage which interferes with a script that I have recently created, so I’m looking for a new host.
Here are my requirements:
1. I must be able to modify PHP settings, in specific, max_execution_time
2. It must be SHARED hosting, not VPS, which will be my last resort
3. It must not have a CPU limitation, or at least be more reasonable than Godaddy’s (max CPU allotted for 20s before the script is cut off)
So, are there any hosting companies out there that have these characteristics? I really don’t want to have to pay for a VPS =/
Thanks!
Shared host or dedicated server?
Not sure which way to go.
I am wanting to start up an information website that i am sure will get quite a bit of traffic.
Just not sure weather to go shared host or dedicated server?
From all my Research they both have good and bad points.
Shared host- I am worried that my site may be blocked due to someone else i am sharing with say if they were selling pron or something? Slow page loading times? Do shared hosts get up in the top 10 for searches? But definitely the up side is it costs alot less.
Dedicated server- Just costs so god damn much! Bt maybe its worth it? If i have faster page loading times etc then maybe id get even more traffic and cover alot of the costs through the money from the advertisements?
I know i could go VPS but i just saw this as a mix of both, yes it costs less, but you are still sharing so I’m still worried about page loading times and the possibility of being blocked due to their content.
My honest thought are if i am going to do it i may as well give my site its best possible Chance of succeeding. But maybe i don’t need to go as far as the expense of a dedicated host? or do I ??
Any opinion or information would be help full.
Thanks,
Lisa
You wont get blocked if someone on the same server is sharing objectional content UNLESS you are using a pooly setup host or blacklisted host. Some hosts like Freewebs are blocked by some filters because people can post almost anything.
I run a shared hosting service. I have 1 domain that has been blocked at work, but the rest are fine. Most hosts should be able to survive alot of traffic. Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions
Will a VPS Web Hosting company fill my needs?
After a year and a half of hosting a CGI based database site with a shared hosting company, resulting in occasional server overloads and web site shutdowns, it’s obvious that I need to change my hosting plan. My former hosting company says that the CGI scripts are causing the overloads. Would a VPS hosting plan be a good alternative for me? Does anyone know any good, reliable VPS hosting companies?
Thanks!
Hi,
A VPS hosting package definitely sounds suitable if you need dedicated resources and want to have full control over these. It means that your sites won’t get shut down obviously as you would be in control of them.
At NetHosted we offer both managed and unmanaged VPS solutions depending which you require, we have a full description of these on our page if you want to take a look. We mainly host business clients on our VPS packages, we pride ourselves on our quality support.
If you have any questions please use the contact us form on our site, and check out our packages in the link below, thanks!

Which VPS (Virtual Private Server) host should I use?
I have a few web stores and one of them has gotten too big for shared hosting. I think I want a VPS host that uses linux, apache, and cpanel. Any sugestions?
What web host do you use? I don’t think it is needed to transfer yuor stores to a VPS server.
However, as an experienced webmaster I recommend Inmotion Web Host which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them. (I run 2 business websites with them)
Their shared service offer 1500 up to 4500 GIGs for disc space, and 15000 up to 45000 GIGs for Bandwidth. They also offer one of the most reliable Virtual Private Servers on the web.
You can take a look at their features at:
http:// top3hosts.atspace .com/in.htm
(join the parts together when inputting in your address bar!)
******IMPORTANT*******
* This service was awarded as the best Business Web Host 2008.
* They offer both shared and VPS services.

Server characteristics for online shop?
Hello everybody,
If you know, could you tell me which are the most suitable characteristics, when buying windows hosting, for a bookstore shop (selling books, cds, dvds, games, etc), that will use ASP and MS SQL?
I’m wondering about disk space, bandwidth, shared hosting, VPS, dedicated server, etc, among other things. I’ve seen many solutions but would not wish to follow one which is too expensive for the shop needs.
The shop will do its business in a country of no more that 15 million people by a rather small company.
Thanks in advance.
If you are using .NET in anyway
NO APACHE or Redhat services will do
there are many good Win server hosters out there
as low as 6.95 a month for decent service
shops are low bandwidth users
unless you use on line chat and forums as well
your service should be more diskspace at reasonable bandwidth
unlimited bandwidth service is usually only 100 meg
goes quick with databases
and aspx driven websites
respond to me and i’ll give ya a couple of good vendors
not going to post here its unfair to market

What type of hosting?
I’m looking into launching my own digital product, and it will be in the form of 15 videos – these videos are between 15 MB and 50 MB each…
I’m looking into getting shared hosting through HostGator but I’m not sure that will be sufficient. I know it largely depends on how many people are downloading at one time…..do you think I’ll go over my CPU usage limit or Memory usage limit if say 10-20 are downloading these videos at a time? These will be in the form of ZIP files, so it won’t be streaming or anything.
To recap:
15 Videos.
Each between 15 MB and 50 MB each.
Should I go with shared hosting, VPS hosting, or get a dedicated server?
Anyone know of any solutions for these files?
Hey D A, Host Gator should be able to handle it, although other users gave you some good advice also. The files aren’t THAT big (as compared to other downloads) but still you never know how much your product is going to sell…
Where can I sell my shared, reseller, vps and dedicated hosting at?
I’m looking to increase my online presence by making personal sales to potential customers. My product line includes shared, reseller, vps and dedicated servers. Does anyone know any forums or websites that would increase my sales?
my website is http://www.freshnode.com
What’s the best way to go from a simple shared hosting account w/ hostgator to a good VPS or dedicated server?
I am wanting to upgrade my hosting account to a more secure plan. However, I have about 10 sites and I have done a lot of work to them. I want a smooth transition from A hostgator shared account to a reputable VPS or dedicated server.
I have never done this before and don’t want to be stuck exporting and importing anything. Can this be done?
I think that you deserve to be client of one company called LVPSHosting .
Their team can arrange everything for moving from old hosting provider to the new. And You will have fully control of what you worked for (your sites) .
Just contacting them at http://www.lvpshosting.com and the team will manage for the rest.
And VPS plans starts from $18.95 and that is very cheap for the service you are getting.
Recommend a good shared linux hosting service for my wordpress blog?
Hi,
I hosted with squarebrothers.com and series of problems haunted me and my website. I wanted to transfer to net4.in but online reviews are reminding me my past horrible experience. These are for static portfolio websites I guess.
I run a daily updated blog that grows rapidly in both size and number of unique visitors.
I run a wordpress blog with at least 2500 unique page views.
I don’t want to have any problems like “bandwidth exceeded” or “CPU resource abuse” or anything else
Can anyone recommend a shared linux hosting service?
money doesn’t matter much
Do I need to go to VPS or dedicated server otherwise?
I invite all recommendations with any plan of web hosting though I prefer Indian company. Do I need to host with US companies for shared or VPS or dedicated server palns? any recommendations on which company?
I am standing with just backup, I don’t want to end up like this again so please help me if you know a hosting company with very good customer support.
Thanks in advance
Nix
I recommend one of these: http://www.top3hosts.com
iPage has the best offer right now.
Their standard price is $84/year ($6.95) but they have
a 50% sale, one year of hosting for $42.00.
Their plan includes:
Unlimited disk space
Unlimited bandwidth
Free domain name
Price: $42/year ($3.50)
They have one of the most popular hosting platforms, which currently hosts over a million websites. They’re also one of the oldest hosting companies, founded in 1998.
If you want to get a VPS I recommend:
http://www.slicehost.com/
http://www.linode.com/
They both have plans starting from $20/month.
But you don’t need a VPS for a 100 000 monthly visitors.
You just need a reliable and well established US shared hosting.
Where can i find .net 2.0 and sql 2005 hosting in the uk?
I’m looking for a web hosting provider in the UK that provides Windows Web hosting with ASP.NET 2.0 and SQL 2005. This can be shared or VPS hosting, my bedget is £30 a month.
Thanks.
hi – best thing for you to do is really to take a look at http://www.forum2.co.uk – its a great ressource for webhosting in UK, with good offers and discussions about different providers.
I run a hosting company, http://www.uk2.net – one of the biggest in UK, but we currently do not provide windows hosting
Best of luck.

If I’m going to have a site with large file downloads-should I get shared, VPS, reseller, or dedicated hosting?
Basically, I’ll be having a site that will have around 5-6 large file video downloads….would shared hosting work for this?
Shared hosting is fine. Get the cheapest thing you can find because downloading files takes no resources off the web server. Dedicated is where no other websites, except yours, is on the server. If you have complicated php or .asp web pages that use a lot of resources to process all the information, then the dedicated would be idea in this situation.
You’ll want to research and see how much bandwidth (how many mb’s you’re allowed to send over the internet) and how much is costs if you go over.
Why do people want a regular shared hosting account for around $10 when they can get a vps for around $10?
not all shared hosting is $10. You are over paid it. You might consider webhostingpad, I have a good time with them without any problem. They are currently doing special offer, 1700GB space and 17000GB bandwidth for just $46.40 a year after a discount. To get the discount coupon of $25 you can go to here: http://www.earningblog.com/2008/01/21/webhostingpad-coupon-code-2008/
Hope this help and enjoy your hosting.
How can I move my database driven web site from one host to another? I’m using Joomla.?
Basically I am paying for shared hosting and also VPS hosting and would like to move my Joomla site from the shared to the faster VPS so I can cancel the shared hosting. How do I do this without losing all the content I already have? Thanks!
It is quite simple, if the your site is simple. It might need professional services if the site is a massive portal.
Your new host might provide you a facility for “Remote FTP”. If your new hosting guy / VPS guy provides Remote FTP, use this to transfer all Joomla files to the new host.
Then take a MySQL Database dump from the current shared hosting and recreate your database at the new hosting.
This is very smooth, if the environments on both hosting places are same.
For example, If PHP is not compiled properly on the new hosting guy, you might encounter some problems.
If the MYSQL database version on the new hosting is not matching with the old one, the data migration might give some problem.
You can experiment this if you are little technical and understand some database fundamentals. Otherwise you need to seek some professionals help

What should I put for Configure Server on my VPS Hosting?
So I have a website on a shared web hosting but the web hosting doesn’t have what my scripts/website needs. but VPS hosting does.
While trying to buy VPS Hosting, it says ‘Configure Server’ then says “Hostname:” “NS1 Prefix:” “NS2 Prefix:” and “Root Password:” I’ll just generate something for the password, but I don’t know what I should put for the Hostname, NS1 or NS2 Prefixes.
If my domain (website name) is as-play.com, Would I put that for the hosname and just put ns1 and ns2 for the prefixes or what?
This is my first time buying VPS hosting and the stupid host people are always sarcastic with their answers and no help at all..
Okay so I get the NS1 and the NS2 but what about the hostname? Would I just make it Server1.as-play.com?
Please give me some tips to choose right web hosting. vps or shared?
Note: Please do not post your hosting referral links here..Because i choosed the host
Friends, I’m going to host a website. Planned to make it a social website. Now the hosting i choosed provides unlimited shared hosting for $70 per year and Virtual private server(VPS) hosting for $12 per month. Shared plan comes with unlimited features(Everything). But VPS comes with following.
Root Access- Available
Disk Space-10 GB
Guaranteed RAM-128 MB
Burstable to RAM-256 MB
Bandwidth / Month-100 GB
Linux OS-Cent OS
Dedicated IP address-1
Easy upgrades-Available
24/7 support- available
Self-managed VPS- available
Monthly Price-$12
ADD-ON FEATURES:
Cpanel- $10/month
Fantastico + RV Skin-$4/month
Additional IP-$2/month
Extra Bandwidth (Per GB)-$0.50/month
Daily backups-$5/month
128 MB-$5/month
256 MB-$10/month
512 MB-$15/month
1024 MB-$25/month
Now my question can i use VPS hosting without cpanel? can i choose it? Is this VPS plan is good? Are is there any VPS plan cheaper than this?
Hi,
Don’t go for free web hosting. They are not reliable….
I would recommend “Host Gator” for your Web Hosting because it’s cheap and very reliable. Their support service is awesome. This company offers site building tools, application vault, web mail, antivirus, Php, MysQL ,e-commerce and hosts unlimited websites in one plan.Check out personal reviews direct from the users here :

Anybody here has gone from Shared Hosting to VPS?
My bandwith counter was at 600mbs on a 999999 (whatever amount of nines) bandwith account and suddently “This Account Has Been Suspended” was all you could get.
Pass was reset. No access. Received an email saying that too much band was used bla bla, move to VPS or else.
From $6 to $10. I felt like sending them $50 to go get some customer relationship lessons. A gift from me since they seem to have it so hard.
I went for the $10 VPS Linux so that I can at least get my data back.
But liked the full contral of it all etc etc so I am giving it a go.
Learned that cURL didn’t work so my site is dead anyway so I spent 4 hours installing cURL but the thing wouldn’t install unless you installed something else and THAT wouldn’t install unless you installed something else and so on russian dolling linux madness until i got to the point that the first thing DID install and so on till the end 4 times in total (digging the links out of google as theirs were dead so I had to discover what their processor was for the right package) and in the end I restarted the server, crossed my fingers and cUrl STILL isn’t working.
Nor is email.
I am into technology, build pcs, bike/car/beats/any engines, sites, washing mahines anything that can be taken apart so I usually hit on it till I master it but i am now wondering if this is really on.
It looks like I could be stuck on it for 6 monts doing a lot of guesswork and lateral thinking before I get my site back on track.
You know, somebody that’s used to a horse and cart gets given a 1967 Rolls Roice in boxes and two broken clues on how to set the camshaft timing, no gap settings for the valves and some “factory problem” with the oil feed!
I know it is only $10 a month but if I must take 2 weeks off to study a book on how to set my VPS up via what looks like old DOS commands then technology isn’t THAT advanced is it?
I know I am not at the back of the class to do with this stuff so I am wondering what most people do when they get to this point of their site’s lives. Any words of support? I’d need someone good with it living in the house then I’d learn very easy just by watching but on my own?
Internet “tutorials” all assume you know already how to perform many simple (to them) operations but when you don’t, it’s hell.
Years ago I learned to prioritize and to be as logical as I can in my decisions.
I make $7000 a month using shared servers, but I need to be on top of it 14 hours a day.
Duplicating my business ca be done in about a year if I keep on schedule, and I am working on a system that next time can duplicated in three months only.
Should I drop everything, change direction to learn how to set up emails and scripts with linux servers?
Nope.
I agree that the Bash shell can be sexy to the right people but I just love to fiddle with my 1972 Alfa GTV! It takes me to the seaside where I can see the horizon in the evenings
Frankly, it sounds like you need a fully managed VPS provider. It helps to have a helping hand once in a while. In fact, a fully managed provider can work on those pesky issues and report back on how it got fixed. You learn from it and get stuff done at the same time. The unix shell with its trillion programs can be intimidating at first but believe me when I say that it’s very capable. Nothing in the GUI camp comes close to the functionality of say the Bash shell.
You can find plenty of tutorials on google but you have to know the keywords to search for. It’s the chicken and egg situation. But don’t get discouraged. With enough perseverance you’ll learn how to be self sufficient.
By the way, be sure to ask your potential provider as many question as possible to ensure that indeed their “fully managed” service covers helping you with script errors and software installs.
By the way, my name is Joe and I help run two Web hosting businesses here in Houston, TX.

Best web host to host hundreds of sites? 10 Points!?
I’m looking to build hundreds of websites this summer (anywhere from 100-200), and will be looking for a host that will do it—I will also need a host that will support unlimited domains – would reseller hosting work for this?
something tells me that shared hosting will not work for this…but would reseller, VPS, or a dedicated server be able to do this?
These sites won’t be receiving tons and tons of traffic, but each site will be hopefully be bringing in 10-100 visitors per day.
Would shared hosting work for this, or would you recommend I go ahead and spend the money with a VPS or Shared host?
If so, what are your recommendations and best plan of action to go about setting this all up?
You can do it with a shared plan but you must have a ton of web space. There are many web hosting providers and you might become confused to choose which one. It is very important that you choose a good web host. Good doesn’t mean expensive. Good means reliable with great support. When you choose a web host, make sure they have excellent support. If you have a problem with your web site you want help now, not in a day or two.
It can be confusing when choosing a web hosting company because they all look pretty much the same and they seem like they know what they are doing. However, I recommend reading reviews from reliable websites so that you may compare and become more familiar with the hosting companies before making a decision. I am a web designer and I have changed back and forth from many companies over the years but my favorite one is FatCow. I am moving all my websites to them as the contracts expire.
I have question – What is different between shared hosting and Virtual Private Server Hosting ? READ DETAIL?
I basically want to know what is quite difference – i’m thinking of running tutorial site with quite videos around (200) of them – i already made it so – I want to host all video from my website – NOT FROM Youtube or any other site. In all web-hosting site like – Web.com or inmotionhosting.com – they provide you unlimited bandwidth – will my website will be fast enough to load video – my user limit will be around 50 – a day and A video size will be around 25 mb each. – What is better VPS or just common web hosting ? please answer !
Thank You .
Unlimited bandwidth does NOT exist, it is a marketing term. Every host that offers “Unlimited” hosting also has restrictions on how much load you can put on the server, and “load” is often undefined or simply described as server resources. You will be suspended for using too much server resources long before you reach anything you might consider to be unlimited.
Hosts that offer unlimited plans will often have specific limits on the kinds of things that you are allowed have on your site. Multimedia and video would often be specifically be excluded. Every host is different, you need to read the exact details from the host site.
With a vps the hosting plan has specific limits in terms of disk space and bandwidth, but those are real limits, as long as you abide by them you will be ok.
You should seriously consider the vps option, in the long run you will have much less grief.
what type of hosting for a games site?
im planning on opening a online games site, but I don’t know what type of host or server my budget is £25 a month, so shall i go for a vps, dedicated or normal shared, also i need help with naming it please also suggest a name
Go with a vps straight away, the cheapest ones wont break your budget and if your site is a big hit there is usually a very simple upgrade path, this means you can support more users and more bandwidth without struggling through copying files around.
With shared hosting there is a lot of heartache moving sites around and things like that, I just wouldn’t suggest it.
As for a name for your online games site, why not go with something with “cyber” or “assassin” in the name, seems to be pretty popular sort of name, but go with something that is meaningful to you. Web2.0 names with one of the vowels cut out are big right now, so maybe gamr cybr etc
As for choosing a host, pick someone local who you can trust, the best way to do that is to give their support number a call before you by and make sure they understand what you want and are helpful, but try not to waste their time with endless questions either.
I have a post on my blog about choosing a webhost for a vps but that is for the Australian/US market, I guess since your price is in GBP you are looking for a UK host?
Vps backup solution needed – how can I make sure my website database is backed up remotely on a schedule?
How to do a vps backup remotely for free? Me and my partner launched an recruiting website together – we have good ties in the retail and hospitability industries and in six months from the official launch we managed to have our client base built nicely. For this we had a website developed – both graphics and engine customization. Our web programmer is in India and remained on contract to keep updating the website, but he keeps telling us to back the website (currently hosted on a virtual server) from our US office, since his connection is too slow. I learned how to do that over FTP, and I do it every day, but I plan to go on a 3 wks trip and my partner is not computer savvy, nor comfortable to do it on his own. Besides, were anything to happen while I am away, he would not have the patience to help Raj (the programmer) access the backups and put the server back if disaster strikes. I looked into remote backup solutions (my Dell laptop came with a free online backup account for 2GB), but it’s not good – we need to backup a MySQL database, the actual website files (PHP) and our shared calendar and address book, with all client and candidates names. It’s not a lot of data, but getting a paid account with regular backup providers it’s not good – not working on the Linux system installed on the virtual private server and definitely not able to backup MySQL databases. I read about special scripts and using the rsynch command, but that is way over my head and it still requires another server to store the actual backup data. How can I do this (even thought of doing some sort of daily e-mail to my yahoo account with the backup, but that sounds so unreliable I don’t even consider it anymore). Better ideas, anyone willing to share their experience?
I registered for a trial account with carbonite and managed to get that working on my laptop – backing up my regular office documents and quickenbooks, but the application does not work on linux servers.
Hello!
In your given context, it is quite difficult to do for free – you need to store scheduled backup of your VPS server and backup MySQL databases to a remote location so that your webmaster can access them and restore data unassisted in the event of a disaster.
If you have the patience to search on the internet, there are scripts able to do what you said about mailing backups on a schedule to a free e-mail address where your webmaster has access. If the archive is large, or fails to build properly, or anything else unexpected happens, it will be quite difficult to fix it though.
Alternatively you can try to register for a free account on http://www.vps-backup.com – you get 30 days of access to their client application and remote online service for vps backups, with 50gigs of disk space and linux/mysql features. When the trial expire the account remains live indefinitely (no purchase required), but restricted to 5gb and you might want to check with them what happens if you had more than that already stored on the server – I imagine they trim down your stored data somehow to fit in 5gb.
Once you register an account you can give your programmer the usrname and password, and he can access the files from their web page, restore to a new location or even use the client app to restore to a new server if needed.
Thinking of vps backup is a very reasonable thing to do – lots of businesses rely on the provider to handle their data and misread the t&c – even if your vps is backed up every night, it is most likely that the copies are stored in the same datacenter and prone to disaster. Besides, if a provider has thousands of Virtual Private Servers to backup each night, it becomes increasingly difficult to test individual vps backups for accuracy through an entire backup-and-restore cycle. This makes implementing a VPS backup solution critical to any insurance policy you want to have in front of your customers – not only that your business as usual will continue undisturbed if struck by a hardware fault, but also that your clients’ data is safeguarded with your company. Moving services to the cloud (and vps hosting can vaguely be assimilated to cloud services) does not mean data is safe and no vps backups are required, both on-site and off-site. Hardware redundancy solutions like cluster servers and RAID systems are not backup – they can improve or guarantee time, but not the data safety and integrity.
Hope this helps – all the best and enjoy your trip!
why shared hosting gets free cpanel but vps cpanel is not included, and it costs more ?
Because with a VPS hosting you basically get an empty system on which you’re then supposed to install everything yourself like the operating system (like Ubuntu linux), the server, cpanel and everything else.
If you’re just starting up you probably don’t need a VPS right away. Just get some cheap shared host, start building your site and you can always switch to a VPS or even a dedicated server later on.
For shared hosting I recommend one of these http://www.webhostingtable.com
Fatcow has the best offer right now.
Their standard price is $88/year
but they have the 50% sale right now.
Disk space: Unlimited
Bandwidth: Unlimited
A Free domain name
Unlimited domains and subdomains
Price: $44/year
They’re one of the oldest hosting companies, founded 1998, they’re also one of the largest, currently hosting about 500,000 websites.
Their hosting plan includes a web builder, so you can create your site just by drag and drop (without any programming), or you could install WordPress (easy, one click install from their control panel), choose a theme that you like, and start adding content.
Do Virtual Private Servers offer better uptime than shared hosting?
I’m running some websites with shared hosting providers for $10/month. I’ve been experiencing some down times. The tech support tell me there’s nothing wrong with my site. The server experienced heavy loads from other accounts sharing the same space. If I purchased VPS, would I experience the same problem?
It depends. Keep in mind that a VPS does not guarantee resources and therefore stability. Because a VPS is another word for shared! A VPS is one virtual server amongst many on the same physical server. If another VPS on the same server starts consuming more resources, the whole server will under perform, including your VPS.
Get your own dedicated server if you need stability. You can find dedicated servers for less than $100 dollars. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or comments.

Please tell me more information about Shared, VPS Hosting and Dedicated Server.?
Please tell me more information about Shared, VPS Hosting and Dedicated Server.
A Dedicated Server is a full server that is your ‘own’; you share it with no other websites. You have the full hard drive, full use of RAM, full use of the processor. The whole gambit. If you could walk in to the data center where your account is, and look at the actual server, it would be your account only on that server. You have root access.
A VPS is a Virtual Private Server. A VPS simulates having a dedicated server, but you are still sharing the server with other websites. You still have root access, but the actual hard drive in the server is split between several websites (clients). The benefit of root access is you have better control over your filesystem. Many programs will not run without root access. Some configurations/options can not be set up without root access. Shared Hosting companies are usually very strict about making such adjustments for clients. So a VPS would be a good fit for someone needing root access, but doesn’t want to pay the full price for a dedicated server.
A VPS differs from basic shared hosting in that with a VPS, you get root access to the file system and in shared hosting you do not.
A VPS is cheaper than a dedicated server. Shared hosting is the cheapest of all, but offers the least amount of control and flexibility.
Good luck!
Why does shared web hosting offer unlimited bandwidth but dedicated servers or VPS hosting does not?
Just curious why you don’t get unlimited data transfer if you’re paying A LOT more for a dedicated server or virtual private server.
shared hosting providers usually have their servers on an unmetered line, which will be shared among their many clients. You could get an unmetered line for your dedicated/VPS, but it would cost you a real lot.
